Lapalco Family Dental : Tooth Extractions in Marrero, LA
At Lapalco Family Dental, our goal is to save teeth, not pull them out. Dr. Landry always aims to preserve your natural teeth, but there are certain times when tooth extractions process is the only way to restore function and keep your mouth healthy. It may be a tooth that has been knocked out accidentally and lost, or a tooth damaged beyond repair by trauma, disease, or neglect.
Removing a tooth is a routine procedure at Lapalco Family Dental. This means that is it a minor surgical treatment performed under local anesthetic (and sedation if you have dental anxiety) and often completed in one visit.
Dr. Landry can save a decayed tooth from being extracted with root canal therapy, but sometimes, damage is so severe that the entire tooth must be removed to prevent infection from spreading and harming the surrounding area. There may also be no structure left to anchor a dental crown. In these cases, the tooth will be removed and replaced with a crown, bridge, denture, or dental implant.
Severe gum disease or periodontitis can lead to loose, wobbly teeth. If bacteria have destroyed the underlying bone and soft tissue, your dentist may recommend extraction and tooth replacement.
Wisdom teeth are the last to come out and usually cause problems when they do. The tooth may become trapped (impacted) in the bone or gums and come out horizontally or at a complicated angle. It can also exert pressure on nearby teeth, push them out of alignment, and cause infection and severe pain. After taking X-rays, Dr. Landry will do wisdom tooth extractions or bit by bit under local anesthesia.
