Lapalco Family Dental : Dental Emergency in Marrero, LA
Dental emergencies can happen anytime, and it’s important to have a dentist that you can rely on. Marrero, LA dentist Dr. CJ Landry provides dental emergency services and immediate treatment for a knocked-out tooth, loose or missing fillings, broken dentures and dental appliances, bleeding gums, and soft tissue injuries. If you are far from a hospital or clinic and it is after hours, you can relieve pain and discomfort temporarily with these tips:
Our policy for dental emergency in Marrero, LA here at Lapalco Family Dentistry, is if you have a dental emergency or urgent care to attend, we’re going to see you. There’s never been a time when I tell patients, I’m sorry we can’t get you in today or we’ll see you three weeks from next Monday. We always get you in, get you out of pain, it might not be definitive treatment but we’ll make sure you’re not in pain or you’re not embarrassed. If a front tooth falls out or a crown falls out, that’s an aesthetic emergency. Maybe not in pain but I know that you don’t want to go to work or spend the weekend without your front tooth.
In fact, just today while we were here filming, we had a patient call that his front tooth had gotten knocked out, and we stopped production here so that we could go ahead and get his tooth back on for him for the weekend.
I carry my cellphone twenty four hours a day. I have children, so I’m always available if they need me or call. My cellphone number is on the answering machine at the office. If you call on a weekend or at night and you have a problem, it’ll tell you to call Dr. Landry on his cellphone and I always answer my cellphone.
Toothache is often caused by a large cavity or deep infection and can also be caused by trauma, fracture, or impaction. For temporary pain relief, take an over the counter painkiller like Motrin or Advil. Do not take aspirin as it can worsen bleeding. Rinse your mouth gently with mouth wash or warm water to flush away food particles or debris.
The chances of re-attaching a broken or knocked-out tooth are higher the sooner you see the emergency dentist (ideally within minutes after the incident). Hold the broken part by the crown (the top) and rinse it gently under running water to remove dirt. Place it back in its socket and hold it there with clean gauze, or place it in a container with milk or saliva.
Broken braces, dentures and bridges must be repaired professionally at the dental emergency clinic. Don’t attempt to fix them yourself as it may cause further damage. If the appliance cannot be repaired, your dentist may recommend replacement.
Remove objects in the mouth that can be removed, including jewelry. Apply clean cotton or gauze pad to the area and hold it there firmly for at least 15 minutes. Go to the nearest ER or hospital if bleeding does not stop.
