C.J. Landry, D.D.S.
New Orleans Area Cosmetic Dentist
My dad was in the army so I was actually born in Leavenworth, Kansas. For the next fifteen years we moved all over the United States. We lived in Germany for four years. My parents were both from the New Orleans area. We moved back here in 1971. I went to West Jefferson High School, and then I went to Nicholls State University on a football scholarship, and after that I went LSU Dental School in New Orleans.
Dr. C.J. Landry was born into a military family when they were stationed in Leavenworth, Kansas. He grew up on Army bases in Texas, Louisiana, and his family even lived in Germany for four years. After his father retired from the military, they returned to the Westbank Louisiana area in 1971 and put down roots. Dr. Landry attended West Jefferson High School, where he excelled in academics, football, and wrestling. He graduated in 1974 and went on to Nicholls State University on a football scholarship. In 1978, he graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry. He went on to attend LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans, where he graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1982. Immediately after graduating from dental school, he opened his practice, Lapalco Family Dental, at his current Marrero, Louisiana location.
Years ago, one of my mom’s first cousins, somewhat – he’s my mom’s age, was a printer, and he suggested that I go to dental school. His father wanted him to go to dental school, he didn’t – so I read a couple of books about it because I am a voracious reader. I’m an instruction kind of guy. I liked what it said about the ability – you do different things every day, so it’s not over and over doing the same thing. One moment I’m doing a root canal or an implant or a denture, and I really enjoy that about it. That’s how I ended up in dentistry.A friend of mine and I, also named Landry, opened this practice in 1982 right out of dental school. About five years later he decided to move on, he’s now up in Prairieville, Louisiana, and I’ve been here since 1982. So this year made thirty-three years in the same office every day, and I love it.
In addition to more than 30 years of dental practice experience, Dr. Landry has completed thousands of hours of continuing education in endodontics (root canal therapy), orthodontics, prosthodontics (dentures and partials), and dental implant surgery and restoration. His patients appreciate that while he keeps current with cuttingedge technology, Dr. Landry provides personal, gentle, oldfashioned customer service.
Dr. Landry is married, has two sons and a daughter, and six grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, reading, cooking, and travel.
Most recently the continuing education that I’ve focused on is implant dentistry. I think it’s the new cutting edge of dentistry. I just completed a one year residency in Birmingham, Alabama strictly on implants, placement, sinus grafts, sinus lifts. This is the biggest course I’ve taken on implants in a long time. I’ve been doing implants for about five to six years now. I feel very comfortable but I wanted to be able to expand the services that I provide and some of the areas that didn’t have as much bone as we’d like to see for normally doing implants.I’ve also done continuing education in orthodontics, endodontics which is root canals. I’ve done thousand of hours of continuing education now and I’m still eager to learn more every day.
